The credit crunch has claimed another victim – BMW’s striking CS Concept. Plans to produce the sensational sports saloon have been axed as it’s not financially viable. The luxurious four-door grand tourer was first seen at last year’s Shanghai Motor Show, and was destined to go head-to-head with the forthcoming Aston Rapide, Porsche Panamera and Lamborghini Estoque super-saloons. Its radical styling hinted at the trend of future BMW designs, and received a warm response from the public. But the firm released the news shortly after third-quarter profits were announced. Fortunately for BMW fans, the other cars earmarked for production – such as the X1 SUV, 7-Series Active Hybrid, X6 Active Hybrid and MINI Crossover – are still going ahead as planned.
